Mepal Parish Council

Abusive behaviour to contractors working at the Pavilion will not be tolerated

At approximately 5pm on Wednesday 19th January the Parish Council got a call from our electrical contractor working at the Pavilion to report that he was being verbally abused by 4 youths and they they had also thrown a drinks bottle at him. He was working with an apprentice who was also shocked by the behaviour and the 4 youths involved remained in the vicinity shouting abuse for at least 30 minutes after the event started. The Parish Council cannot accept such unacceptable behaviour as this was an unprovoked attack whilst the contractors were trying to pack up equipment after a long days work. We are trying very hard to get the Pavilion in full working order and to improve this community facility, and acts of vandalism, verbal and physical abuse will not be tolerated. It is not clear whether these youths, who look to be aged between 15-18, live in Mepal or whether they have come in from surrounding villages, but we are currently looking at how we can deal with this now and in future with police assistance.

Please, if you suspect that it is your children who might have been caught up in this, talk to them and explain it is unacceptable and that we will be forced to take action to protect Parish facilities and employees and workers and users of the facilities and are not prepared to ignore such unacceptable behaviour.

If you witness any antisocial or threatening behaviour then we ask that you report this to the police. In an emergency please dial 999 however for non-emergency reports this can be done very simply online: https://www.cambs.police.uk/report/Crime

The online reporting can be submitted anonymously if you prefer.
