Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Local Government re-organisation – access the consultation – closes 26 March 2026
Councils across the UK are changing to make them simpler and more efficient. From Thursday 5 February until Thursday 26 March the government is consulting on four different options for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, which have been developed by different councils across the region.

The government will make a final decision on which proposal to implement in the summer, with a view to the new councils being in place from April 2028.
One of the proposals on the table – option B – is a new vision for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough put forward by Cambridge City Council, East Cambridgeshire District Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council. Three different councils that are run by three different political parties, who all agree that option B is best for residents and businesses across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and think this option is the right size to thrive and local enough to care.
All parish councils, town councils, and residents’ associations are urged to find out more about option B in the video below, so that, when you complete the consultation, you know more about it and why ECDC believe it’s a positive choice.

ECDC are also hosting webinars at which leaders and representatives from all three councils will talk more about the options and specifically their preferred option B proposal:
- Option B for Town Councils, Parish Councils and Residents’ Associations – Wednesday, 25 February, 5-6pm
- Option B for Everybody – Friday, 6 March 5-6pm
