Chatteris Windfarm Proposal

Chatteris Wind Farm and Redmere Wind Farm proposals

We are writing to you regarding two proposed onshore wind projects, Chatteris Wind Farm and
Redmere Wind Farm, that Vattenfall is in the early stages of developing. The site boundary of
Chatteris Wind Farm lies adjacent to the north-west corner of your parish council area
Both proposals will be classed as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs), with a
generating capacity of over 100 megawatts (MW), as follows:
• Chatteris Wind Farm: the early design comprises up to 15 turbines and would be capable
of generating up to 126 (MW) of electricity.
• Redmere Wind Farm: the early design comprises up to 32 turbines and would be capable
of generating up to 303 (MW) of electricity.
As the projects are at an early stage of development, detailed design information is not yet
available. However, we are keen to engage with local communities and stakeholders early to
introduce the projects, discuss any questions that people may have, and gather feedback that can
help inform the development of the design.

The proposals
Chatteris Wind Farm is proposed on land located to the south of Chatteris, near Mepal, Sutton and
Somersham, while Redmere Wind Farm is proposed on land located near Littleport, Feltwell and
Lakenheath. The sites are approximately 20 kilometres apart and we have included a map showing
the respective site boundaries with this letter.
While they are separate projects and will each require separate Development Consent Order
(DCO) applications, we are introducing them together because we recognise that some local
communities and representatives may have an interest in both.
We are currently initiating detailed site surveys and studies which will build our understanding of
the site constraints over the coming months and inform the design of each project. The locations of
the turbines and other infrastructure at this stage are indicative and the design will continue to
develop as the site survey work progresses. We will also be submitting a Scoping Report to the
Planning Inspectorate (PINS) shortly; this will initiate a consultation process with key consultees,
managed by PINS, which seeks feedback on the proposal scope of Environmental Impact
Assessment (EIA) work.

Early engagement
We would like to invite parish councils and local communities to engage with us on the proposals at
an early stage and we are planning local drop-in events next month to begin this process.
Local households will shortly receive a letter introducing these two projects and confirming details
of the drop-in events. We will advertise the events in the Ely Standard and via our project websites
(details below). In addition, we have attached a copy of an information poster which you may wish
to share on your online channels and in the local area; please let us know if you would like us to
send you hard copies of these posters.
Local drop-in events
The drop-in events will provide people with an opportunity to learn more about the proposals at this
early stage, to meet the project team and ask any questions that they may have. A range of
information will be available including maps and information about the studies and assessments
being carried out.
We are also keen to gather feedback from local residents in order to understand local priorities,
identify the issues that need to be considered as the proposals are developed, and check how
residents would like to be involved as the projects progress. Residents are welcome to drop in at
any time during the event.
Location

Consultation events will be held in early 2027, where we will share more detailed information
including visualisations from specific viewpoints.
