Laurel Close PlayPark and Recreation Field Improvement Project

Facilitated by a generous community grant from Mick George, the Mepal Parish Council Play Park improvement project, has successfully delivered a range of upgrades to provide enhanced facilities for children and young people in the community. The project began with the replacement of the existing broken basket swing, which had been taken out of use, with a brand-new swing set. New junior swings were added in combination with the basket swing to complement the two existing baby swings, ensuring the play area now caters for a broader age range of children and encourages inclusive play.

For older children and teenagers, we refurbished the basketball area by installing a new hoop and replacing the old, cracked bitumen surface with a new playing surface. This upgrade has revitalised a key part of the recreation Field, offering a safe and durable space for sport, recreation, and socialising. In addition, we have installed a new outdoor ping pong table, which was in use immediately after installation and has already proven to be a popular and well-used addition.

Overall, this project has significantly improved the playpark and recreation field, creating safe, engaging, and enjoyable facilities for all age groups. It has strengthened opportunities for active play, sport, and community interaction, benefitting residents and visitors alike.

Thanks to this funding, we’ve been able to transform our playpark with new swings, a refurbished basketball area, and a fantastic outdoor ping pong table. These improvements are already making a real difference, giving children and young people of all ages a safe and fun space to enjoy together.
