Due to a re-assessment of the current and future Parish maintenance requirements, Mepal Parish Council are now seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, part time person to work independently carrying out maintenance and other works at the recreation ground, open spaces and public areas and pavilion.

The Parish Council has 7 Councillors (1 vacant position currently) and has a number of statutory duties. The appointed person will need to be able to work independently under the direction of the Parish Clerk who is responsible for the day to day running of the council.

The individual will ideally come from a grounds or maintenance background and already be in possession of the basic tools and equipment to carry out the role; other specialist equipment will be supplied when required and agreed with the Council.

Reporting to the chair or vice chair of the parish council, you will be working a 15-hour week, which may involve some early morning/late evening working meaning we are looking for someone who is adaptable and flexible with a positive “can do” attitude.

You will be carrying out grass cutting, ground maintenance duties, property maintenance (including plumbing, carpentry and small building projects) and play area maintenance. Various other duties include, but are not limited to, grass cutting, hedge trimming, clearing leaves, litter picking, planting and grass seeding.

A full UK driving licence is essential and certificates for machinery use are an advantage however this is not essential as training will be provided.

What we can offer you in addition to the renumeration indicated above:

  • Enrolment into a pension scheme
  • 21 days holiday per year plus 8 bank holidays (rising to 25 days after completion of 5 years continuous service) pro-rata.

Closing Date Monday August 17th at 5pm with interviews scheduled to be held on Friday 21st August 2020 (via Zoom video conferencing due to current Covid-19 restrictions), the successful candidate will be required to start on Monday 7thSeptember 2020 or as soon as practicable thereafter.

Please submit an application form and criminal record declaration form (available on the website or by request to the clerk) with a covering letter to the Clerk email: mepalparishcouncil@msn.com or the Vice Chair email lorna-mpc@willconpro.com or via post c/o 19 High Street, Aldreth, CB6 3PQ.

This is a public/customer-facing role.  Mepal Parish Council is committed to safeguarding and is an equal opportunities employer.
