Mepal Power Cut Update

We would just like to let people know that after a concerned resident of Mepal contacted UK Power Networks, they are aware of the current regular intermittent brief power cuts that we have all been experiencing. This is a problem which currently affects 800 properties so they have advised that they believe that the fault is on the main power line in the area and that they will be making efforts to trace the fault, perhaps using a helicopter. They believe that the fault on the very high voltage cable is being caused by something brushing against it (tree branch), touching it (falling leaves) or colliding with it (swans). This then cuts cutting the power briefly as a safety mechanism.

If problems occur more frequently, or the power goes off completely for some time, UK Power Networks ask that you contact them on call from a mobile on 105 or 0800 31 63 105 from a landline.   Similarly, if a possible source of the problem is spotted e.g. overhanging branch, please let the company know.  The phone is manned 24 hours a day. The fault can also be reported online via https://www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/power-cut.

UK Power Networks have apologised for the inconvenience.
