East Cambridgeshire District Council is seeking help from community groups, charities and businesses who have contact with older people on low incomes.
Your help is needed to encourage them to check if they are eligible to apply for Pension Credit.
Anyone who successfully applies before 21 December 2024 may be entailed to a £300 Winter Fuel Payment for this year.
Why it’s important to act now
Previously the Winter Fuel Payment has been paid to all pensioners.
This year, the government has made the decision to means test the payment – so unless pensioners on low incomes are registered for Pension Credit before the 21 December cut off date, they will not receive this year’s payment.
We know that many thousands across East Cambridgeshire sit just above the cut-off for Pension Credit and will now lose their Winter Fuel Payment.
By applying now we want to help our most vulnerable residents to be able to afford heating during the coldest months, thereby preventing ‘heat or eat’ dilemmas and safeguarding health.
