UPDATE following reports of unacceptable behaviour at Pavilion Car Park

The Clerk  received a report of apparent antisocial behaviour this afternoon at the Pavilion (repeated stone throwing towards the building and into the grass at the side of the Pavilion and what looked like a possible attempt to gain entry to the Pavilion). Having reviewed the CCTV footage we identified what looks like a family group who spend over 5 minutes just before 3pm on 12th February picking up stones from the car park and throwing them at the storage container and into the grass at the side. This information was posted to the Mepal People Facebook page and following this we were made aware that this was not vandalism, but a family game and that no attempt was made to gain access to the Pavilion and it was simply a game of hide and seek.

Whilst we appreciate that what looked on camera like antisocial behaviour has now been clarified and was not, the Parish Council remind everyone that a large number of stones are now on the grass area that will damage grass cutting equipment and that we are not talking about one or two stones and some of the stones in the grass area are quite large.

The car park and area around the Pavilion should not be used for practising stone throwing and aiming skills at any time. We would ask you all to remember this and we expect you to treat this area with respect and to make sure that the gravel in the car park remains only in the car park in future.

This post was updated after the original posting to reflect new information provided.
